LATEST AND GREATEST!

It’s been awhile since the last major report and we have been SUPER busy! First things first, I landed the biggest catch of all last week, Lauren and I got engaged and looking at Nov 20th 2010 as a wedding date. Now for some updates on hunting and fishing.

BAY FISHING
The fishing has been on fire before and after fronts. The river was really good until all the rain came last week. But the bay is still great drifting with live shrimp. You can chase the birds but you’ll have plenty of company even during the week! We have fished the birds a little, but mainly been focusing on reefs and scattered shell. Wading has been producing bigger fish but not near as many, but most fish in the 20-24 inch range. Fishing under the lights along the intercoastal has still been on fire and if you can go during the week it’s even better because you don’t have to fight the crowds.

WATERFOWL HUNTING
The bird hunting is success depends majorly on the wind. When we have wind we are killing good numbers of birds both ducks and geese. When we have no wind the bag limits vary depending on location and it’s more hit or miss, but that’s hunting! Wind is the key and with it things have been on fire! With the last front many more birds have shown up both on the prairie and closer to the coast and in the marsh as well. With this next major front coming down we should be even more loaded up with birds. We have connections to property all the way from Garwood, El Campo, Matagorda, High Island, Anahuac, and pretty much anywhere in between. If you want to hunt birds we can take care of you no matter where you want to hunt or the type of hunting you want to do. My future father-in-law runs Fin and Fowl outfitters out of Oak Island and they have a great lodge called Oak Island Lodge and can set anyone up with first class lodging as well as hunting. They just got back in the game since the hurricane and have great property. I hunted with them Thanksgiving morning and we whacked the birds!!! They even have timber hunting up around the Navasota area with some dates available.

HOG AND DEER HUNTS
The hogs are all over the place with the latest rain and we are just waiting on them to start hitting the feeders hard again since there are pecans and acorns everywhere. Blocking hunts are still really successful and stands hunting will turn on again here real soon. Doe season ends this weekend for Matagorda County and we have 3 spots left if anyone can throw something together for Sunday.

SUMMARY!
Things have been super busy but in a great way! Both hunting and fishing have been really great lately and we see that continuing and probably even getting better.
